Knelston
King Arthur |
Situated toward the western end of the Gower Peninsula is the attractive village of Knelston with its ruined 12th century church. A little to the north of the village lies 'Arthur's Stone', a large burial chamber capstone at a place called Cefn-y-Bryn. Traditionally the Stone is claimed to be a pebble that Arthur removed from his shoe when on his way to fateful Camlann, site of his last battle where both he and his enemy-son Mordred/Medraut fell, the latter fatally, the king nearly so. Arthur supposedly threw the stone over his shoulder to lie where it landed.
